Top 5 Posts of 2017

Okay, this won’t be the last time you hear about 2017, but I just wanted to share with you again how amazing God has been these past few months!

New Adventures: Starting a Blog

After much prompting from the Holy Spirit and a supportive boost from my dear husband, I started this little blog just five months ago. Here is that first post that started it all:

How God Inspired Me to Start a Blog

Since then, I’ve been posting nearly every week, about whatever God does in the life of this humble newlywed whose only got her bible and her brain. There are over 20 posts on the blog now, containing over 20,000 words! I am so amazed that God has given me the gift of writing and allowed me to share it in this incredible outlet. I had seen a couple other bloggers write about their top posts, so I thought I’d give that a try as well. I was actually surprised at which pieces had the most views! We’ll count down from the 5th most popular to the 1st. But first, THANK YOU. From my whole heart, thank you so, so much. Without amazing readers like you I wouldn’t feel so encouraged to keep this up!

#5: “Praise the LORD” is not a contingent statement.

This post was the first in a 6-week series on Psalm 106. I really enjoyed writing it because it calls on so many concepts that I love dearly. I had taken time in the past to reflect on this Psalm, and it was one of the first things I felt called to share when I began this blog. I think a perspective of praise is so crucial to living life as a believer, and this whole post is about praising Jesus.

My favorite quote is:

“…there isย no wrong way to praise God. A posture of praise is one of humility and of genuineness.”

#4: Unexpected Sacrifice: The Long Bike Ride, Day 2

This was probably one of the toughest posts I wrote, because I had to admit some of my personal failures and flaws. I wrote about the challenges my husband and I dealt with in our first month of marriage when we joined his family for an almost 200-mile bike ride from Seattle, WA to Vancouver, BC (and by “we”, I mean he biked, I drove the car with snacks ๐Ÿ˜Ž).

My favorite quote:

“To be loved and appreciated is a sweet, sweet thing, and the comfort and security it provides makes the uncomfortable things more bearable. In light of this, I am struck again by the incredible weight Jesusโ€™ sacrifice, because we often do not thank Him for the incredible thing He has done.”

#3: Caring Completely for Another

Funny how there are two posts about marriage in my top 5…maybe I should write about us more often. ๐Ÿ˜‰ This post outlines the days when Caleb was SUPER sick, and I had the task of taking care of him, me, the house, my school assignments, and showing up for work at 7am almost every day. It was WAY harder than I expected to live up to that whole “in sickness and in health” thing.

My favorite quote:

“Taking care of a sick husband is hard. Itโ€™s hard to smile when your partner is suffering. Itโ€™s hard to be joyful when you wake up every morning hoping heโ€™s feeling better, and every morning that tired face tells you without a word: ‘Not today, dear.'”

#2: This is a Kayak, and Today is a Day to Remember

This did not surprise me when it showed up in my top posts for 2017. This post was rough and raw and real. It was the first post I shared publicly after launching my blog, and since so many of my friends and family were there when my family faced a new normal, there were a lot of people reading it that day. I won’t tell you what happened if you don’t already know, you’ll just have to click and find out for yourself. ๐Ÿ˜Š

My favorite quote:

“God allows accidents, decisions, and events to shape the plan He has already designed. This particular design is not what I would have preferred, but I choose to look at the goodness He has brought instead of the hardships He may have used to bring it.”

#1…The Home Page!

Okay so sometimes there are links that lead you directly to the home page, and this is the most visited page on my blog. Duh. ๐Ÿ˜… You can also read blog posts from the home page, which is probably why it’s number 1. However, the home page is not an actual blog post, so I’ll give you the real #1 post below.

#1: The Journey isn’t Over: Updates on the Family Front

I sure do seem to write about my family a lot. God chose to give us another few hardships in the last couple years (funny sense of humor our Lord has…), so what did I do? I wrote. I wrote all about what God was doing and how desperately I was trying to maintain a perspective of praise in the face of illness and death and loss.

My favorite quote:

Just kidding. I can’t decide. I was honestly so proud of the inspiration God placed in my heart and the words that flowed onto the page that I can’t decide which quote is my favorite. Just go read it for yourself. โค

I hope you had fun reading this because I sure had fun writing it. It’s amazing to look through what God has done. It’s rewarding to reread the things He’s taught me and the way I’ve responded to them.

More God-led goodness is headed your way in 2018, so stay tuned! I would also love to hear if there’s anything you want to see on the blog this year! Fill out the form below to let me know your thoughts.
